Founded in October of 1976, M.A.P.A. was organized for the purpose of elevating and maintaining among its members a high standard of proficiency and integrity; to promote and to protect the interest of public accountants by encouraging improvements in the laws affecting accountancy; to cultivate a spirit of professional cooperation among its members; to establish goodwill and understanding between the general public and the public accounting profession throughout the State of Maine.
Full membership is limited to Certified Public Accountants, Public Accountants, Enrolled Agents and those who have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Accountancy and Taxation.

Associate Members are employees or owners of tax practice firms or those that are employed in government, financial institutions, private sector businesses or nonprofit entities whose duties are in the field of accountancy or educators in the field of accountancy.
